Doctor exposes Abhishek's 'Sevashray'! Alleged 100 Crore Swasthya Sathi scam

An explosive controversy has emerged surrounding 'Sevashray', a free public health initiative launched by Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee, following shocking allegations of systemic medical malpractice and financial corruption. A senior physician associated with the medical camp publicly disclosed that nearly 95 percent of the clinical practitioners treating individuals were completely unregistered medical students, while only 5 percent were experienced senior doctors. According to the whistleblower, this severe imbalance meant that approximately 1.55 million out of the 1.6 million total beneficiaries across two operational phases were treated and prescribed critical modern drugs by individuals lacking formal government registrations.

The complaining doctor further asserted that the initiative illegally authorized homeopathic medical officers and personnel from the AYUSH department to write prescriptions for modern allopathic medicines, violating strict statutory regulations. Beyond clinical mismanagement, the whistleblower exposed a major financial network alleging that patients from the camp were deliberately referred and admitted to three select private hospitals in Budge Budge (Bajbaj). This coordinated referral network reportedly led to the fraudulent siphoning and looting of approximately ₹100 crore from the state's 'Swasthya Sathi' health insurance scheme, with the physician offering full cooperation and documented evidence to any formal investigative body.

Responding to the growing public outcry, State Health Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya confirmed that the administration has actively taken note of the structural setup utilized during the extensive multi-day medical camps. The minister acknowledged that using unregistered medical students to treat patients and permitting AYUSH practitioners to prescribe modern medicine directly contravenes established medical protocols. She publicly stated that the health department is treating the matter with utmost gravity and will launch a comprehensive legal and administrative investigation immediately upon receiving a formal written complaint regarding the camp's operations.
